Understanding solar power and its implications for a better world.
Welcome to our blog! As students in an Appropriate Technology for the World's People course, we have taken on the opportunity to construct and use our own solar-powered cooker.
Ultimately, our goal is not just to construct something we can use; our goal is to understand the greater implications of solar and other sustainable energies.
Getting Started
Step 1: Connecting the Diodes
We began our project by soldering twenty-one electric diodes together. These diodes come extremely cheap, usually only about forty cents, making them an optimal and affordable choice.
Various wires were connected to the chain to control the amount and the direction of electricity flow.
Step 2: Connecting the Diodes to the Cooker
Once the chain of diodes was assembled, we used an epoxi-glue to seal the chain to the bottom-most part of our cooker.
Once dried, the diodes will remain in permanent contact with the cooker's outer surface, the subsequent electricity current will heat the entire bowl.
